Social Program Compensation (SPC) payments

A short explanation about SPC on your payslip

Social Program Compensation

Seafarers in the Philippines have access to a government welfare system designed to provide a safety net for them and their families when they are not working. This includes health insurance and other benefits. This system is mandatory for Filipino seafarers.

To provide equal treatment to other seafarers, the unions have negotiated a Social Program Compensation payment in many cruise companies. This is a payment for the equivalent contribution made on behalf of Filipino seafarers to the welfare system in their country.

This payment is in addition to your salary. It is designed to give you the opportunity to invest in your own healthcare where such a system doesn’t exist in your own country.
