Indonesian maritime academies agree stress management training

Stress management to be included in curriculum

Managing stress will now be a subject included for all seafarers graduating from maritime academies in Indonesia.

Thanks to the hard work of the ITF (International Transport Workers Federation),  NSU (Norwegian Seafarers Union) and KPI (Indonesian Seafarers Union), the three organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Indonesian Ministry of Transport to include a managing stress module in the curriculum of all 12 government and 30+ private maritime academies by August, 2024.

This means that all new seafarers will receive this training before they start work at sea. This is an ITF initiative and the first of its kind. We hope to see more and more countries adopt this approach to give seafarers extra tools for managing stress in what can be a challenging work environment.
