Everything you wanted to know about the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC)

Here is a great FAQ guide to the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC)

The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006, is the main instrument of international law that governs the working terms and conditions of seafarers. It describes what should be the minimum standards for living and working standards on board a ship, as well as things like joining the ship and repatriation.

Here is a short video explaining the MLC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW0_MmEO7o4

It is very detailed so this guide makes it easier to find what you are looking for. Just type in your question and it will find the relevant part. Here is a link to the MLC guide: https://faqmlc.ilo.org/

Please remember that the MLC outlines the MINIMUM standards for seafarers.

Your collective bargaining agreements (CBA) usually have better terms and conditions so always check your CBA first.
