Attorneys and legal cases

What to do if you are approached by a private attorney

We know that private attorneys are targeting seafarers, especially those who have had a problem at work, or an injury. Sometimes these seafarers are in vulnerable and desperate situations.

If you are approached by a private attorney, please check with us. You may be entitled to the same services FOR FREE.

We have a team of case handlers at the Norwegian Seafarers Union. Our Officers can give you advice, support and representation if you have an issue at work. For free.

If your case is complicated, or there is a legal issue, you don’t need to pay extra for a lawyer. The union will assess your case and guide you through the process. It’s part of being covered by our collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).

Last year, we helped many seafarers access the money that was owed to them. They didn’t have to pay anything to the union and all the money they were paid back went straight to them.

Many private attorneys take a percentage of whatever money is recovered for the seafarer. The union NEVER takes a percentage- the seafarer gets all the money that is owed to them.

Our job is to make sure that seafarers get the money that they are supposed to have. We do not take private cases and the issue has to be related to work. If you are not sure, you can contact us.

Our role at the Norwegian Seafarer’s Union is to protect seafarers and your rights. We are here to help.

If you have an issue and you want advice and support, send us an email at mail@nsu.org
