Indian government opens ports to allow crew home

24.04.2020

Indian ports now open for crew

Following work by NUSI and the ITF family, the Indian government has now opened its ports to seafarers returning home. Crew are now permitted to sign-off in Indian ports. They will be tested for COVID-19 at the port. If the test is negative the crew member will be allowed to travel to their home. They will be given a special permit and a permit for one driver to travel home by road.

If the crew member tests positive for COVID-19 they will be dealt with appropriately by the Ministry of Health.

Please note that as sign-off is only permitted in ports, crew will have to sail to their nearest home port. Flights are not permitted. You may be asked to transfer to another ship to make your journey as short as possible.

If you have any questions, please contact NUSI or send us an email at mail@nsu.org
